Bernd Leno emerges as Fulham's savior in FA Cup upset against reigning champions Man Utd

Manchester United's FA Cup championship defense ended at their own stadium against Fulham as Bernd Leno stopped Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee's penalties to guide Marco Silva's team to the quarter-finals in a penalty shootout.

The Red Devils made it to the final in both seasons with Erik ten Hag, but Ruben Amorim's struggling team saw their hopes crushed in the fifth round on Sunday as Fulham made it to the final eight for the second time in three campaigns.

Leno was the hero for Fulham with two saves in a 4-3 shootout victory after a thrilling match ended 1-1 after extra time, earning them a home quarter-final against Crystal Palace.

Fulham's progression was especially satisfying as Silva was sent off, alongside Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic, during a chaotic minute in a quarter-final collapse at Old Trafford two years ago.

Calvin Bassey put Fulham ahead with a header in first-half stoppage time, but Bruno Fernandes equalized with a fantastic first-time strike, bringing delight to disappointed United fans and quieting the outspoken former captain Roy Keane.

Both teams had opportunities to win the fifth-round match before it went to penalties, where Leno's saves against Lindelof and Zirkzee secured a memorable victory at Old Trafford.
