Parma vs Napoli preview: Napoli in position to edge closer to the title

The Serie A title battle was given a lifeline for Inter after Napoli surprisingly drew 2-2 with Genoa last weekend.

This result allowed the defending champions to close the gap to just one point behind Antonio Conte's team with only two games left to play. Napoli, however, still have a chance to secure their second Scudetto in three seasons if they manage to defeat Parma and Inter lose at home to Lazio on Sunday.

Prior to the draw, Napoli had won their previous four league games without conceding a single goal, including two consecutive 1-0 victories on the road against Monza and Lecce.

Parma, on the other hand, had been on a solid run of six draws and a win in seven matches as they tried to move away from the relegation zone. However, their recent form of just one point from the last three games has put their Serie A status for next season in jeopardy heading into the final two fixtures.

Team news

Parma will be without Lautaro Valenti who is suspended, as well as Yordan Osorio, Gabriel Charpentier, Alessandro Vogliacco, and Valentin Mihaila. Nahuel Estevez and Adrian Bernabe could return from injury to be included in the squad.

Meanwhile, Napoli will miss Stanislav Lobotka, Alessandro Buongiorna, and Juan Jesus due to injuries. Billy Gilmour is expected to start in midfield after impressing in the last game when he replaced Lobotka early on.

The stats

Cristian Chivu's team Parma are in a good position in Serie A, they are four points ahead of the teams in danger of relegation.

Parma have seen both teams score in 24 of their 36 league matches this season.

Parma have managed to score against Serie A's top three teams in all four encounters this campaign, although they have suffered defeats in three of those games.

Napoli have been leading at half-time in five of their last six wins.

In four of Napoli's last six league matches, there have been under 2.5 goals scored.

Napoli have won four of their previous five Serie A games without conceding a goal.

This season, Parma have only won five out of their 18 home league games.

Prediction

Despite Napoli's setback against Genoa, they are still in a strong position to secure the title by facing teams placed 16th and 14th in their final matches.

Antonio Conte's Inter, who have a history of winning the Scudetto, are expected to claim three crucial points against Parma.

Parma's recent form, with just one win in their last 10 games and a defeat to Empoli in the previous match, does not bode well for their chances against Napoli.

Given Napoli's tendency to start matches strongly, they are likely to lead at both half-time and full-time in this fixture, buoyed by players like Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay driving their pursuit of the title.
