Luke Molyneux nets three goals at Tranmere to enhance Doncaster's chances of promotion

Luke Molyneux got three goals as Doncaster kept on pushing for promotion with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Tranmere at Prenton Park.

Molyneux’s hat-trick increased Grant McCann’s team’s unbeaten streak to eight games and boosted them to second place in the League Two standings.

Doncaster took the lead in lucky circumstances after 23 minutes when Molyneux’s free-kick curved unexpectedly and went straight into Luke McGee’s goal.

Tranmere didn't pose much of a threat in attack and their situation worsened when interim manager Andy Crosby was shown a red card before halftime for hitting the ball into the stands.

Six minutes into the second half, Doncaster increased their lead when Rob Street was fouled by McGee, and Molyneux calmly scored from the penalty spot.

Tranmere tried to fight back quickly with Kristian Dennis hitting the crossbar from distance and Regan Hendry forcing a save from Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

But the outcome was sealed with 14 minutes to go when Molyneux was the first to react to a save by McGee to secure his and Doncaster's third goal.
