Antoine Semenyo's goal helps Bournemouth in their quest for Europe as they defeat Fulham

Antoine Semenyo scored less than a minute into the game, helping Bournemouth get back on track for a chance to qualify for European competitions with a 1-0 win against Fulham at the Vitality Stadium.

Semenyo took advantage of an early mistake from Fulham's captain Antonee Robinson to score his 10th goal of the season, securing the Cherries their first win in seven league matches.

Although Evanilson came close to doubling the lead by hitting the woodwork, Bournemouth managed to hold on and move up to eighth place, surpassing both Fulham and Brighton on goal difference.

Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon missed a great opportunity to equalize by heading directly at Kepa Arrizabalaga in the first half, and later was seemingly substituted incorrectly during the game.

Prior to this victory, Bournemouth had only obtained two points out of a possible 18, after a significant dip in form since their 3-1 win over Southampton on February 15, which had placed them in fifth position.

In terms of lineup changes, Marcos Senesi replaced Illia Zabarnyi in the only alteration from Bournemouth's previous match against West Ham, while Fulham's manager Marco Silva stuck with the lineup that defeated Liverpool 3-2.

Bournemouth quickly took the lead within the first minute of the game.

Alex Scott initiated a counterattack after a mistake by Timothy Castagne, and Semenyo capitalized on Robinson's error to score past Joachim Andersen and find the bottom-left corner of the net.

The hosts had an opportunity to extend their lead in the 16th minute when Evanilson hit the crossbar from close range after a cross from Milos Kerkez.

Fulham also posed threats in the first half.

Rodrigo Muniz had three chances in quick succession, with one shot going wide due to defensive indecision from Bournemouth's center-backs, before Sessegnon missed a clear opportunity by heading straight into Kepa's arms.

Senesi received a yellow card for a challenge on Andersen, despite winning the ball, and Leno made a save from Scott before halftime.

In the second half, Bournemouth's Senesi was substituted for Zabarnyi, and the team almost doubled their lead, but Leno denied Tyler Adams with his legs.

There was confusion during a triple substitution made by Fulham's manager Silva, which seemed to result in Sessegnon being withdrawn due to an administrative error.

Both teams had chances in the remaining minutes.

Kepa saved a shot from Alex Iwobi, and Leno kept out an attempt from Sasa Lukic as Fulham sought an equalizer.

A potential penalty for Bournemouth was overturned by VAR, ruling that Leno had touched the ball when Evanilson fell in the box.

Bournemouth managed to hold on during stoppage time to secure a well-deserved victory, their first at home since beating Nottingham Forest 5-0 in January, reigniting their pursuit of European qualification.
