PSG move closer to keeping Ligue 1 crown with dominant second-half display against St Etienne

Paris St Germain moved closer to their 13th Ligue 1 title and their 11th in the last 13 years by defeating St Etienne 6-1.

St Etienne managed to draw 1-1 by halftime after PSG striker Goncalo Ramos scored a penalty to equalize Lucas Stassin’s early goal for the hosts.

PSG dominated in the second half with Desire Doue scoring two goals, along with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Joao Neves, and 17-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye also finding the back of the net.

Luis Enrique’s team, still on track for a quadruple, extended their unbeaten league streak to 27 games this season and matched AC Milan’s record of 38 away league games without a loss.

Despite St Etienne not winning in their last nine matches, they started strong with Stassin scoring in the ninth minute with a header.

The first half saw back-and-forth action as PSG tried to respond quickly.

Beraldo and Fabian Ruiz missed good chances for PSG, while Ramos couldn't convert a golden opportunity, shooting straight at St Etienne goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur.

Stassin had a chance to extend the lead for the home team but missed the target.

Ramos equalized for PSG from the penalty spot just before half-time after a VAR check confirmed a foul in the box on the Portugal striker.

PSG took control early in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession.

Kvaratskhelia scored with a precise finish inside the near post, followed by Doue adding another goal after an assist from Bradley Barcola.

Neves and Doue contributed with more goals as PSG dismantled the tired St Etienne defense.

VAR overturned a penalty decision for St Etienne, and Mbaye sealed the 6-1 win for PSG.

PSG, who won the French Champions Trophy in January, will face Dunkerque in the Coupe de France semi-finals and Aston Villa in the Champions League quarter-final.
