Southend reignite play-off aspirations with win against Oldham

Southend gave a boost to their National League play-off aspirations with a 1-0 victory over Oldham at Roots Hall.

Keenan Appiah-Forson scored the sole goal of the match in the eighth minute, helping the Shrimpers bounce back from their recent heavy loss to Boston and keeping their hopes of promotion alive.

Appiah-Forson was quick to react when Oldham goalkeeper Tom Donaghy saved an initial shot from Leon Chambers-Parillon, slotting the ball into the net from close range.

Southend continued to create more opportunities, with Macauley Bonne testing Donaghy again and Noor Husin missing the target with a shot over the bar. Despite this, the hosts managed to halt Oldham’s unbeaten streak of five games.
