Aaron Muirhead's goal propels Arbroath closer to promotion.

Arbroath made a big step towards securing a quick return to the William Hill Championship as Aaron Muirhead scored early to help them defeat closest competitors Cove Rangers at Gayfield.

Muirhead's goal in the eighth minute increased the leaders' lead to eight points. Cove Rangers faced further trouble when their striker Mitch Megginson received a red card two minutes into injury time.

Stenhousemuir, in third place, couldn't keep up the pace. A difficult first half led to a 3-2 home defeat against struggling Montrose.

Callum Sandilands scored twice and Owen Stirton added another goal to put Montrose ahead by three goals at halftime. Despite late goals from Blair Alston and Matthew Aitken, the hosts couldn't recover.

Mark Durnan's last-minute goal gave already-relegated Dumbarton their first victory since December in a thrilling finish against Alloa at the Indodrill Stadium.

Alloa managed to equalize with just four minutes left through Conor Sammon, but Durnan scored in injury time to secure a surprising 3-2 win.

East Fife staged an impressive comeback to defeat The Spartans 4-2 and reinvigorate their promotion hopes in League Two.

Despite trailing 2-0 at halftime due to goals from Jamie Dishington and Blair Henderson for Spartans, Alan Trouten and Michael McKenna equalized for East Fife. Two late goals from Nathan Austin sealed the comeback, bringing East Fife within one point of league leaders Peterhead.

Peterhead played most of their goalless draw at struggling Forfar with 10 men after Kieran Shanks was sent off early for two yellow cards.

Bonnyrigg Rose continued to struggle at the bottom of the table as Dajon Golding's goal earned Elgin a 1-0 away win.

Stirling secured a 2-1 victory over Edinburgh City with a late header from Ryan Shanley after James Graham opened the scoring but James Stokes equalized.

Two late goals from Martin Rennie completed Clyde's 2-1 comeback win against Stranraer, who had Mark Russell sent off late in the game for two yellow cards.
