Halifax's chances of making it to the National League play-offs took a hit following a 1-0 loss to Hartlepool at The Shay.
Hartlepool, riding high on a three-match unbeaten streak, started brightly, with Gary Madine's close-range attempt being kept out by goalkeeper Toby Savin.
The away team took the lead in the 41st minute when Reyes Cleary tucked away a low shot following David Ferguson's delivery into the penalty area.
Halifax, who are winless in their last four games, missed late opportunities through Florent Hoti and substitute Angelo Capello, both shots going wayward.
