St Johnstone secures victory against Ross County to enhance chances of survival

Makenzie Kirk found his scoring form again by scoring the winning goal in the second half, helping St Johnstone in their battle for survival with a 1-0 win over Ross County.

Kirk scored after 66 minutes as St Johnstone reduced the gap with Dundee at the bottom of the William Hill Premiership to just three points.

The victory margin could have been larger if not for three impressive saves by Jordan Amissah.

The team will be delighted to carry this momentum into their upcoming crucial match against Dundee on Saturday.

Before the match, St Johnstone's manager Simo Valakari faced a setback as key defender Bozo Mikulic was ruled out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury sustained in training.

Mitchell replaced the Croatian player, and loanee Stephen Duke-McKenna made his first start after some promising appearances as a substitute.

Both deadline day signings impressed in defense and attack while Ross County couldn't replicate their previous top-six form.

Ross County fielded an unchanged lineup for the third consecutive game but struggled to find their footing as St Johnstone controlled the game in the first half.

Early in the game, Duke-McKenna was denied by a brilliant save from Amissah following his 25-yard free-kick.

Amissah made another outstanding save just before half-time, denying Sam Curtis from close range with a diving effort.

In the second half, County showed some attacking intent with Connor Randall and Elijah Campbell going close, but St Johnstone regained control and eventually found the breakthrough goal.

After a move initiated by substitute Graham Carey, Kirk capitalized on a defensive error to score his eighth goal of the season, ending his five-game goal drought.

St Johnstone had chances to extend their lead through Duke-McKenna and Nicky Clark, while County threatened late in the game with a powerful shot from Nohan Kenneh, but Fisher made a crucial save to secure the win for St Johnstone.
