Hidde ter Avest scores first goal as Oxford triumph over Hull

Dutch defender Hidde ter Avest made a goal in his first match giving Oxford their first victory in nine games – a 1-0 win against Hull at the Kassam Stadium.

Although the Tigers had the upper hand in the first half, they were unable to score.

Ter Avest capitalized on Greg Leigh’s assist 10 minutes into the second half after a great pass from Tyler Goodrham that put Hull's defense under pressure.

This win allowed Oxford to move past Hull in the Sky Bet Championship standings, breaking a streak of four winless home games.

On the other hand, this defeat extended Hull's string of games without a win to six, adding more pressure on manager Tim Walter.

Oxford's head coach Des Buckingham made five changes to the team following their 2-1 loss against Swansea on Saturday.

Hull was missing Ecuadorian midfielder Oscar Zambrano, who was serving a suspension from the South American Football Confederation for breaking anti-doping rules, and English winger Abu Kamara, who was out due to an ankle injury.

Despite a bright start from Hull, with Kasey Palmer missing a shot just outside the box early on, and Xavier Simons sending Mohamed Belloumi's cross over the bar later, they couldn't convert their early chances.

Although Oxford struggled to get out of their own half for parts of the game, Belloumi was unfortunate not to score for Hull with a curling shot hitting the post in the 33rd minute.

Even though Oxford was outplayed at times, they had a good opportunity towards the end of the first half when Ter Avest's header from Leigh's cross was saved by the keeper.

After Ter Avest's goal, Oxford faced a setback as defender Ben Nelson had to leave the field due to a suspected groin injury.

Belloumi kept posing a threat for Hull, coming close to scoring from 12 yards out and then forcing a save from the goalkeeper with a shot from distance.

However, Hull's motivation waned after conceding, and despite a late attempt from substitute Chris Bedia, Oxford's solid defense held firm until the final whistle.
