Airdrie defeat Stenhousemuir to advance and face Cove Rangers

Airdrie needs a victory against Cove Rangers to stay in the William Hill Scottish Championship after both teams advanced through their play-off semi-finals on Saturday.

Alex Bannon and Ben Wilson scored for Airdrie, securing a 2-1 win over Stenhousemuir at the Albert Bartlett Stadium. This victory led to a 5-2 aggregate triumph for Airdrie, who finished ninth in the second tier.

Stenhousemuir, ranking lowest among the play-off contenders after finishing fourth in League One, managed to respond through Matt Yates in the second half. However, the task proved too much as Airdrie comfortably advanced.

Rangers, the League One runners-up behind the automatically promoted Arbroath, claimed a 2-1 victory over Queen of the South after a goalless draw in the first leg.

Mitch Megginson's early penalty and Blair Yule's goal in the second half paved the way for Rangers' win at the Balmoral Stadium. Despite Kai Kennedy's late goal for the Doonhamers, Paul Hartley's team managed to hold on for the win.

The first leg of the final will be hosted by Rangers on Wednesday, with the return leg scheduled for next Saturday.
