Kevin De Bruyne's goal brings Manchester City one step closer to securing a spot in the Champions League

Kevin De Bruyne scored a goal in his second-to-last match at home for Manchester City as they narrowly defeated Wolves 1-0 to move closer to securing a spot in the Champions League next season.

De Bruyne, who is playing his final games before his contract ends this summer, scored in the 35th minute, achieving his 250th goal contribution under manager Pep Guardiola.

Wolves won't be sad to see De Bruyne go, as he has scored 11 goals in his last 10 matches against them.

De Bruyne will have one more opportunity to play at the Etihad when City faces Bournemouth on May 20.

This victory marked City's fifth consecutive win, the second time they have achieved this feat this season. It propelled them to third place before the weekend's other matches, putting them four points ahead of sixth-placed Nottingham Forest in the race for a top-five finish.

Wolves arrived at the game on a six-game winning streak, aiming to secure a seventh consecutive victory in the top flight for the first time since 1946. However, they were left frustrated as Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri both hit the post during the match.

Despite Wolves' strong start, City's first significant opportunity came in the 33rd minute when Nico O'Reilly's shot was saved by Jose Sa.

City took the lead two minutes later when De Bruyne scored after a build-up involving Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku.

In the second half, City controlled the game more effectively, but Wolves came close to equalizing when Cunha hit the post in the 56th minute.

City made substitutions, with Manuel Akanji replacing O'Reilly and Erling Haaland warming up for his potential return to the squad after an ankle injury.

The match saw a moment of controversy when Ait-Nouri caught Silva on the ankle, but after a VAR review, the game continued without further incident.

In the end, City managed to maintain their unbeaten streak, stretching it to nine games.
