Burnley vs Millwall match preview: Clarets poised to aid title run

Despite already clinching promotion, Burnley showed they were not satisfied with just that accomplishment when they comfortably defeated QPR 5-0 in their last match as they aim to secure the championship title.

Unfortunately for Burnley, their title contenders Leeds defeated Bristol City on Monday to reclaim the top position. Both teams are tied on points going into the final day, but Leeds have a superior goal difference, meaning Burnley must earn more points against Millwall than Leeds do against Plymouth.

However, it won't be an easy task as Millwall are currently in seventh place and a victory could potentially secure them a spot in the play-offs, making Saturday's showdown in Lancashire a crucial one.

Team news

Notable absences for Burnley include Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys, Enock Agyei, Mike Tresor, and Jonjo Shelvey. Additionally, Lyle Foster, Manuel Benson, and Aaron Ramsey will be assessed before the game. Zian Flemming is ineligible to play against his parent club as he will be joining Burnley permanently in the summer.

Millwall will be without former Burnley goalkeeper Lukas Jensen, Zak Lovelace, Dan McNamara, Calum Scanlon, and Duncan Watmore. They will also have to evaluate the fitness of Billy Mitchell, Raees Bangura-Williams, Joe Bryan, and Liam Roberts.

The stats

Burnley have kept an impressive 30 clean sheets in the Championship this season. Millwall have won five of their last six matches, while Burnley have emerged victorious in seven of their last eight games at Turf Moor.

Under Alex Neil, Millwall have only lost eight out of 25 matches. Burnley remains undefeated in all 27 home games this season, whereas Millwall have suffered defeats in three of their last four away games.

Prediction

Burnley, under Scott Parker, will be determined to defy the odds and silence the critics who have already labeled them as favorites for relegation from the Premier League in the upcoming season, but their immediate focus is on winning the championship title.

Although their fate is partly reliant on Plymouth's performance in the final game, Burnley can hold up their end of the bargain by maintaining their unbeaten record at Turf Moor this season.

Having won seven of their last eight home matches, including victories against Sheffield United and Bristol City, Burnley is in a good position to secure a comfortable win against Millwall and extend their clean sheet record to 31 for the season.

Millwall, on the other hand, will be eager for a victory themselves but face a tough challenge considering their recent away form. A home fixture would have favored their play-off aspirations more. Nonetheless, they are expected to put up a fight in the final game of the season.
