Two goals in a quick period of three minutes in the first half by Alfons Sampsted and top scorer Jay Stansfield brought champions Birmingham close to reaching a hundred points with a 2-1 victory over Burton.
Birmingham faced a tough challenge in the first half as Burton fought hard to secure a win that would help in their battle against relegation.
Despite having more possession in the initial half, Birmingham did not pose much threat to Max Crocombe in Burton's goal. On the other hand, Ryan Allsop was kept busy with Burton's attacks, especially with the speed of Rumarn Burrell and Owen Dodgson causing trouble with their crosses.
Birmingham took the lead when Sampsted scored his first goal for the club from outside the box after a partially cleared corner. Stansfield then extended City's lead with a composed finish from Kieran Dowell's pass.
The second half was less eventful, as Birmingham controlled the game at a slower pace. Fabio Tavares scored a late goal to give Burton a consolation, marking his first goal at the Pirelli Stadium.
Despite Bristol Rovers suffering a home defeat to Stevenage, Burton's destiny in League One is still under their control as they remain just above the relegation zone.
