Late goals by Barrow secure a draw against promotion contenders AFC Wimbledon

Connor Mahoney scored a last-minute equaliser to help Barrow secure a thrilling 2-2 draw against promotion-contender AFC Wimbledon at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Johnnie Jackson’s team seemed on course for a crucial victory in the race for automatic promotion, but Barrow fought back from a 2-0 deficit in the 88th minute to clinch a valuable point.

The match came alive in the 24th minute when Marcus Browne narrowly missed with a powerful shot from outside the box.

AFC Wimbledon missed a golden opportunity in the 33rd minute when Matty Stevens and James Tilley were unable to convert a well-placed cross from Josh Neufville.

Barrow's Ben Whitfield failed to score from close range after the break as the visitors pushed for a lead.

However, it was Browne who broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, connecting with Joe Lewis' long pass to find the top corner of the net.

A potential second goal for AFC Wimbledon was disallowed for offside shortly after Browne's strike.

Stevens, the top scorer for AFC Wimbledon, thought he had sealed the victory with his 17th League Two goal in the 85th minute.

But Dean Campbell narrowed the gap in the 88th minute, setting up a tense finale for the home fans.

Then, in stoppage time, Mahoney unleashed a brilliant shot that found the bottom corner of the net, salvaging a point for Barrow.
