Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Champions League for the first time have been dashed as they lost 2-1 in the second leg to Paris St Germain at the Parc des Princes.
Despite a strong beginning, Mikel Arteta’s team, who were already trailing by a goal in the semi-final, fell further behind in the overall scoreline when Fabian Ruiz scored for PSG in the 27th minute.
Vitinha failed to convert a penalty – awarded after a controversial VAR decision following a handball by Myles Lewis-Skelly – before Achraf Hakimi sealed PSG's victory in the 72nd minute.
Bukayo Saka managed to pull one goal back for Arsenal four minutes later but missed a great chance to narrow the gap to one when he blasted over the crossbar from close range.
However, it is PSG who have emerged victorious, securing victories against three Premier League teams consecutively, with Arsenal joining Liverpool and Aston Villa in being defeated by the French champions. PSG will now face Inter Milan in the final on May 31.
