Manchester United clinch incredible Europa League triumph with Harry Maguire's decisive goal

Harry Maguire ensured a remarkable victory for Manchester United at Old Trafford, as they made an incredible comeback to defeat Lyon 5-4 in extra time and advance to the Europa League semi-finals.

The Red Devils, who were in 14th place in the Premier League, knew that a loss in Europe would mean the end of their chances of salvaging a disappointing season with a trophy and a spot in continental competition.

After goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot were cancelled out by Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico, the match went into extra time on Thursday night, with United facing the possibility of a dramatic exit from the quarter-finals.

Despite Lyon's dominance following Tolisso's red card, Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette found the net, leaving United on the brink of missing out on European football for the first time since 2014-15.

United have a history of fighting until the final whistle, despite their shortcomings in recent seasons.

Bruno Fernandes' penalty in the 114th minute brought hope, Kobbie Mainoo's goal in the 120th minute caused celebrations, and Maguire's header moments later sent the fans into ecstasy, securing a 7-6 aggregate victory and setting up a semi-final clash with Athletic Bilbao.
