Colchester secure play-off position in League Two with fifth consecutive victory

Colchester climbed into the top six of the Sky Bet League Two table following a convincing 3-0 victory over Fleetwood, securing their fifth consecutive win.

Despite an early save from Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch denying Owura Edwards, Colchester's Harry Anderson was also kept out by Lynch with a double save.

Fleetwood had their own opportunities as Mackenzie Hunt's shot was easily saved by Colchester's goalkeeper Matt Macey, and Mark Helm missed a good chance as well.

Colchester's Arthur Read came close with a long-range effort, while Macey prevented Owen Devonport from scoring just before the break.

The hosts took control of the game with two quick goals after half-time.

Lyle Taylor broke the deadlock in the 55th minute with a close-range finish after a set-up by Anderson in the box.

Edwards extended Colchester's lead in the 59th minute after receiving a pass from Mandela Egbo and directing a shot past Lynch.

Jack Payne secured the victory for Colchester in the 85th minute with a quality strike from outside the box, as Danny Cowley's team continued their winning streak.
