Burnley dominate Sheffield Wednesday to narrow the distance towards automatic promotion spots

Marcus Edwards scored in his debut start for Burnley in a 4-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday, helping the Clarets to keep pushing towards the top teams in the league.

Before Edwards' goal just before half-time, Parker's team was struggling on the field.

Since the top two teams in the Championship, Leeds and Sheffield United, were facing off on Monday, Burnley had an opportunity to narrow the gap between them and those teams. The second half saw goals from Josh Brownhill, Connor Roberts, and Manuel Benson.

Edwards, who joined Burnley on loan from Sporting Lisbon, made the first goal after 43 minutes of play. He had already hit the crossbar earlier with a deflected cross in the 20th minute, which was Burnley's only real threat until his goal.

Burnley, known for their solid defense this season with only nine goals conceded in 34 league games, faced tough competition from Wednesday who missed several opportunities to score at the beginning of the match.

Despite a strong start in the second half from Wednesday, Burnley's Brownhill scored quickly after coming on as a substitute in the 62nd minute. This goal gave Burnley a comfortable lead and Roberts added another one after that, securing the win for his team.

In the end, Benson marked his return from injury with a fantastic goal from the edge of the area, sealing the 4-0 victory for Burnley over Sheffield Wednesday.
