Chelsea secures impressive Club World Cup win over PSG with standout performance from Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer had an impressive performance leading Chelsea to a remarkable 3-0 win against Paris St Germain in the final of the Club World Cup on Sunday.

Palmer scored two excellent goals and set up another for Joao Pedro, all in the first half, as the Premier League team surpassed expectations in New York to surprise the reigning European champions.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez also had a great game as the Blues, who were considered clear underdogs at the MetLife Stadium, claimed a prize of over £90 million as the inaugural champions of FIFA's new 32-team tournament.

PSG lost their composure towards the end and Joao Neves was shown a red card with five minutes remaining for pulling Marc Cucurella's hair.

FIFA, the global governing body, had aimed to make the event, which was attended by US President Donald Trump, a major success.

The pre-match show, featuring a performance by Robbie Williams and a US Air Force flyover, ran late and caused a delayed start – but Chelsea had practically wrapped up the game before Doja Cat appeared at half-time.

It was an outstanding accomplishment against a PSG team that had been aiming for their fifth trophy of the season.

Palmer, the hero of the Conference League final, was in superb form and many spectators believed he had scored in the eighth minute when his shot narrowly missed the target after a flick from Pedro.

PSG missed a chance to capitalize on that escape and take the lead when Fabian Ruiz set up Desire Doue, but he chose to pass instead of shoot and Cucurella cleared the danger.

Doue did manage a shot on goal shortly after, but Sanchez made a good save.

Palmer took control of the game after 22 minutes when he placed a left-footed shot perfectly into the bottom corner after Malo Gusto's initial attempt was blocked.

PSG were shocked when he repeated the feat just eight minutes later.

This time, Palmer created the opportunity himself, receiving a long ball from Levi Colwill, cutting inside from the right, and finishing with composure.

He wasn't done yet, as he provided an assist before half-time to send Pedro through on goal.

The Brazilian, who scored twice in his full debut in the semi-final against Fluminense, showed great composure to chip the ball over Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Mr. Trump mentioned that he was "having a really great time" in an interview with broadcaster DAZN at half-time, and the Chelsea fans among the 81,118 spectators would undoubtedly agree after witnessing such an exciting performance.

PSG fought back, but Sanchez denied a header from Neves and made a brilliant save to deflect a close-range shot on the turn from Ousmane Dembele.

Liam Delap had a fantastic attempt saved by Donnarumma shortly after coming off the bench for Chelsea and went close again soon after.

PSG were defeated and frustration showed as Neves clashed with Cucurella, resulting in a red card for pulling the Spaniard's hair.

There were further altercations after the final whistle as Chelsea's players and staff rushed onto the field to celebrate, and PSG manager Luis Enrique was involved in an unsightly incident with Pedro.
