Sam Smith scores decisive goal as Wrexham move up to second place ahead of Wycombe

Wrexham moved up to a higher position than Wycombe in the League One automatic promotion spots after winning 1-0 at Adams Park – although a medical emergency in the crowd marred the match.

Sam Smith scored the decisive goal 12 minutes before the end as the team from Wales answered perfectly to their loss against Reading on Tuesday.

At the beginning, Wycombe had a good start and Arthur Okonkwo saved Fred Onyedinma's headed attempt from a cross by Garath McCleary, as well as a powerful shot from Dan Udoh.

Wrexham did not create many chances in the first half, but they improved significantly after the break and hit the post in the 55th minute through Smith, capitalizing on a mistake from Caleb Taylor.

During the 77th minute, while Wycombe had a corner, the match was interrupted when fans from the visiting team raised alarm as a spectator fell ill.

The game was paused for almost 45 minutes while medical staff provided assistance to the affected fan, who was then taken to a nearby hospital for further care.

After the match resumed, Luke Leahy's cross from the set-piece was met by Taylor's header, which was saved excellently by Okonkwo.

In a sudden turn of events, Wrexham capitalized on a quick attack and Smith scored a deflected volley past Will Norris, delighting their traveling fans.
