Walsall will bring a 2-0 advantage back to Bescot Stadium following goals from Taylor Allen and Alfie Chang in the first half secured a victory over Chesterfield in the League Two play-off semi-final.
Allen scored first from the penalty spot in the 28th minute, with Chang doubling the lead six minutes before half-time.
The visiting team started strongly, with an early chance when George Hall's shot was saved by Ryan Boot. Chesterfield responded with Ryan Colclough's deflected shot.
Walsall took the lead with Allen's penalty after Liam Mandeville fouled Liam Gordon. Chang then scored with a low drive following a pass from Gordon.
Chesterfield had opportunities to score in the second half, but Tom Naylor's header was saved by Tommy Simkin, and Mandeville's volley was blocked on the line.
Chesterfield manager Paul Cook made a substitution in the second half, bringing on Armando Dobra for Michael Olakigbe.
There was a scare for Walsall when Ash Palmer's header hit the crossbar twice, but Levi Amantchi's shot was saved by Boot.
With added time, Chesterfield pushed forward, but Bim Pepple's header was saved by Simkin.
Walsall, who missed out on automatic promotion, were satisfied with their lead and are now favorites to advance to the final.
