Hibernian boost chances of securing third place by beating Dundee United

Hibernian extended their lead over Aberdeen to three points in the William Hill Premiership with a 3-1 victory against Dundee United at Easter Road.

Martin Boyle gave Hibs the lead after three minutes, followed by Mykola Kuharevich's goal in the 14th minute, securing a comfortable lead at halftime.

Dundee United's Kristijan Trapanovski narrowed the gap with a goal in the second half, but Dwight Gayle's header in the 87th minute restored Hibs' two-goal advantage.

With Aberdeen suffering a 1-0 defeat at St Mirren, Hibs capitalized on the opportunity to create a significant gap in the table with only three matches left.

Both teams were looking to bounce back from recent defeats, with United losing 5-0 to Celtic and Hibs facing a 1-0 loss at Aberdeen that ended their unbeaten streak.

The opening goal came early in the game due to defensive errors, as Junior Hoilett's pass set up Chris Cadden to assist Boyle for an easy finish.

Despite United's efforts to respond, Hibs continued to dominate, with Kuharevich finding the net with a well-placed shot off the post.

Trapanovski's goal gave United hope, but Hibs sealed the win with Gayle's late header.
