Nottingham Forest climb to third place after speedy start in victory over Tottenham

Chris Wood scored his 19th goal of the season to lead Nottingham Forest to a 2-1 victory over Tottenham, propelling them back to third place in the Premier League.

Forest had dropped to sixth in the standings following results from the weekend, but manager Nuno Espirito Santo secured a valuable three points against his former club Spurs with early goals from Elliot Anderson and Wood in London.

The win brought Ange Postecoglou's side back down to earth after their Europa League semi-final qualification, as they were unable to overcome Forest despite a late goal from Richarlison, leaving them in 16th place.

This marked Nuno's second return to Tottenham since his brief tenure in 2021, but this time his team had their sights set on Champions League qualification after an impressive season.

Morgan Gibbs-White came close to opening the scoring for Forest early on, but his shot was saved by the Tottenham goalkeeper. However, it was a sign of things to come for the visitors.

Forest capitalized on a corner kick to take the lead, with Anderson's shot deflected into the net off Rodrigo Bentancur to put them ahead.

Despite a disallowed goal from Wood shortly after, Forest doubled their lead through the striker after a defensive lapse from Tottenham allowed him to head in a cross from Elanga.

Tottenham created chances to claw their way back into the game, but poor finishing and solid defending from Forest kept them at bay.

Richarlison pulled a goal back for Spurs with a header, setting up a tense finale, but Forest held on to secure a vital win in their pursuit of Champions League football.
