Southend closes in on play-off spots with victory over Ebbsfleet

Southend secured a comfortable 4-0 victory against Ebbsfleet, who have been relegated, to remain in the race for the National League play-offs.

Charley Kendall opened the scoring for the Shrimpers with a composed finish in the 15th minute. Mark Cousins then produced a fantastic save to deny Tom Hopper from adding a second goal before the break.

Oli Coker came close to scoring and also set up a chance for Gus Scott-Morriss and Hopper, but they couldn't convert. Coker later extended Southend's lead in the 64th minute after an assist from Jack Bridge.

Substitutes Macaulay Bonne and Josh Walker quickly made an impact, with Bonne scoring the third goal shortly after coming on, and Walker finding the back of the net late in the game.
