Rochdale claim victory in tribute to Joe Thompson at Altrincham

Devante Rodney scored a late goal to help Rochdale boost their chances of reaching the play-offs with a 2-1 win over Altrincham in an emotional game for the away team.

The teams honored the memory of former Rochdale midfielder Joe Thompson, who passed away at 36 due to cancer, with a minute of applause before the match and by wearing black armbands.

Rochdale took the lead in the 20th minute through Sam Beckwith's strike from outside the box.

Despite Tarryn Allarakhia coming close with a curled shot, Rochdale were denied a goal before halftime when Ian Henderson's header hit the crossbar and his follow-up was ruled out for offside.

Rochdale hit the woodwork again early in the second half, but Altrincham equalized in the 58th minute through Isaac Marriott.

However, it was Rochdale who sealed the victory as Rodney found the back of the net in the final minute after a pass from Harvey Gilmour.
