Stockport secured their third consecutive victory by narrowly beating bottom-placed Shrewsbury 1-0.
Oliver Norwood's exceptional free-kick just before half-time was the deciding factor in the match.
After a cautious start to the game, Shrewsbury's goalkeeper Jamal Blackman made a remarkable reflex save to deny Callum Connolly's header.
However, County broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion in the 37th minute when former Northern Ireland player Norwood beautifully curved a free-kick into the top corner, leaving Blackman with no chance.
On the hour mark, Kyle Wootton was thwarted twice in quick succession - first, his shot was blocked by Morgan Feeney, and then Blackman produced a remarkable save from the ensuing corner.
Feeney had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after a 10-minute delay for medical attention due to a collision with an opponent.
Shrewsbury's most promising opportunity of the game arrived in the 83rd minute when John Marquis' header was cleared off the goal line by Ben Hinchcliffe, securing Stockport's victory.
