Rangers break their five-match winless streak at Ibrox with a convincing victory over Aberdeen

Barry Ferguson secured his first victory as Rangers manager at Ibrox in the sixth attempt, as his team cruised to a 4-0 win over Aberdeen in the William Hill Premiership.

The game came to life in the second half, with Vaclav Cerny opening the scoring in the 55th minute, followed by Cyriel Dessers doubling the lead five minutes later. Substitute Hamza Igamane added a third in the 70th minute, and left-back Jefte scored in added time to complete the rout.

This win marked Rangers' first home victory since February 2, with Ferguson breaking a streak of five winless games since taking over as interim boss until the end of the season.

With two games remaining, Aberdeen, who will be facing Hibernian in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup final, are still three points behind third-placed Hibernian and will be disappointed with their second-half performance.

The victory was a much-needed one for Rangers and Ferguson, but the fans are eager for the impending takeover by an American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises, as the season draws to a close without any silverware.

The beginning of the match did not offer much excitement, with a fair share of empty seats in the stadium.

In the 22nd minute, Dessers missed a chance to score from a through ball by midfielder Mohamed Diomande.

Shortly after, Dessers missed another opportunity as he headed a cross from captain James Tavernier wide from eight yards out.

Aberdeen responded with an attempt from Topi Keskinen, forcing a save from Rangers' keeper Liam Kelly.

The game sparked to life just before half-time, with Dessers finding the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

After the break, Igamane came on as a substitute, while for Aberdeen, Kevin Nisbet and Pape Gueye entered the game.

Despite Aberdeen's early pressure, it was Rangers who broke the deadlock with Cerny finding the net in the 51st minute.

Dessers then extended the lead with a well-taken goal, making up for his earlier misses.

The game was put to bed by Igamane's superb volley from distance, securing a comfortable win for Rangers.

Despite some late chances for both teams, Rangers emerged victorious with a convincing 4-0 win over Aberdeen.
