Morecambe enhance chances of avoiding relegation with win over Cheltenham

Morecambe claimed consecutive victories for the first time this season with a 2-0 triumph over Cheltenham, boosting their chances of avoiding relegation from the Football League.

The Shrimps are still in the second-to-last position in the league table but narrowed the gap to Tranmere thanks to goals from Ged Garner and Lee Angol, who is currently in good form.

Garner broke the deadlock after 66 minutes, just moments after entering the pitch as a substitute. Exploiting a defensive error from Cheltenham, he found the net with a right-footed shot from eight yards out, beating goalkeeper Joe Day.

Derek Adams' team extended their lead nine minutes later when Angol capitalized on a mistake by Ibrahim Bakare, sprinted towards the goal, and calmly slotted the ball past Day.

In a rare attacking move from the visitors in the second half, Matty Taylor almost scored with a long-range effort that was tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Harry Burgoyne.
