Chesterfield secure victory after Carlisle's first-half red card proves costly

Chesterfield comfortably secured a 2-1 victory over Carlisle, who are currently at the bottom of the EFL table. Elliot Embleton, who came on as a substitute in the first half, was shown a red card before halftime.

Liam Mandeville and Paddy Madden found the back of the net for Chesterfield, bringing them within four points of the League Two play-offs and leaving Carlisle trailing by five points at the bottom of the table.

Carlisle managed to score a late goal through Joe Hugill, but it was not enough to change the outcome of the match.

Throughout the game, there were several attempts on goal from both sides. Chesterfield's Michael Olakigbe and Jenson Metcalfe had early shots saved, while Ollie Banks forced a good save from Carlisle's goalkeeper, Gabriel Breeze.

The turning point of the match came when Embleton was sent off for a challenge on Armando Dobra. Following this, Chesterfield capitalized on their dominance with Mandeville scoring in the 73rd minute and Madden adding a second goal soon after.

Despite a late consolation goal from Hugill, Carlisle could not change the course of the game after an error from Jamie Grimes allowed the substitute to score.
