Peterborough secures victory over Crawley thanks to Ricky-Jade Jones' penalty prowess

Ricky-Jade Jones netted a last-minute penalty to secure a dramatic 4-3 win for Peterborough against Crawley, who are fighting against relegation.

Jones remained composed as he settled the match following a foul by substitute Ade Adeyemo on Abraham Odoh.

Odoh, playing as a forward, scored three goals in the first half within 21 minutes to give Posh a 3-2 lead at halftime.

Manager Scott Lindsey had urged Crawley's supporters to rally behind the team just like they did at Wembley last season, when the Red Devils earned promotion through the play-offs.

Crawley took the lead in the 12th minute when Armando Quitirna rounded goalkeeper Jed Steer after receiving a lofted pass from Jeremy Kelly.

Despite Crawley's keeper Jojo Wollacott making a crucial save from a free-kick by Tayo Edun, Odoh found the net in the 22nd minute with a precise shot after an assist from Kwame Poku.

Odoh doubled his tally with a spectacular half-volley from 15 yards out, putting Peterborough ahead. However, Kelly equalized for Crawley with a clever finish from close range following good play by Kamari Doyle.

Just before halftime, Odoh completed his hat-trick by converting a chance at the far post after a skillful build-up play between Malik Mothersille and Poku.

Doyle tested Steer with a shot that the goalkeeper saved with his legs, but Crawley leveled the score at 3-3 through Rushian Hepburn-Murphy's goal early in the second half.

Crawley pressed for a winner, hitting the post through Doyle's effort before Steer denied Bradley Ibrahim with a save.

In stoppage time, Peterborough's substitutes Ryan de Havilland, Mahamadou Susoho, and Cian Hayes all had opportunities to score before Jones converted the decisive penalty.
