Harrogate allay relegation concerns with victory over Tranmere in relegation battle

Harrogate secured a crucial 3-2 victory against Tranmere in an exciting match in Sky Bet League Two at Wetherby Road, boosting their own chances while deepening Tranmere's relegation concerns.

Goalkeeper James Belshaw put in an impressive performance for the Sulphurites, making two important saves to keep out Omari Patrick's attempts early in the game. Meanwhile, Tom Cursons missed a great opportunity when he headed wide from close range after Ellis Taylor's cross.

It was Taylor who eventually opened the scoring for the hosts in the 33rd minute, slotting the ball home from Josh March's cross into the six-yard box.

Harrogate continued their strong display in the second half and extended their lead in the 58th minute as Cursons found the net with a header from Taylor's cross.

Tranmere quickly responded, with Regan Hendry scoring a superb goal just three minutes later after a clever short free-kick routine.

Despite Rovers' efforts to equalize, Ben Fox scored a sensational long-range strike in the 75th minute, giving Harrogate a two-goal advantage once again.

Tranmere didn't give up and reduced the deficit to one goal shortly after through a brilliant finish from Patrick. They had a chance to level the score late in the game, but Josh Hawkes missed a penalty in the 90th minute, denying them a potential point.
