Matty Lund secures win for Salford against Grimsby

Salford put an end to a streak of six games without a win by securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Grimsby at Blundell Park.

Matty Lund found the back of the net late in the game in a tense League Two match, earning the Ammies only their second win since January 4.

In the early stages, Grimsby captain Danny Rose missed a chance for the home side, shooting wide as he attempted to convert Kieran Green's cross at the near post.

Salford's only opportunity of the first half came when Haji Mnoga tested Jordan Wright with a close-range shot after making a run down the wing.

Wright made a crucial double save early in the second half, first denying Luke Garbutt's free-kick before blocking Tyrese Fornah's rebound attempt from the edge of the box.

Substitute Lund sealed the victory for Salford in the 82nd minute with a header from a corner that looped over Wright and found the back of the net.
