Max Clark shines in John Coleman's Gillingham team to secure a draw on his return to Accrington

Max Clark scored a late goal to help Gillingham secure a draw against Accrington, saving them from a potential loss.

Accrington seemed to be on their way to a win with Benn Ward scoring his first goal in the Football League.

However, Gillingham's Max Clark capitalized on a short free-kick taken by Armani Little, ensuring that both teams shared the points. The draw was a positive outcome for Gillingham's manager John Coleman, who made a return to the Wham Stadium where he had previously managed for over 20 years before being dismissed in March.

The game started off competitively, with Gillingham's goalkeeper Glenn Morris making an impressive double save in the 22nd minute to deny Jake Batty and Ben Woods from scoring.

Despite Gillingham pushing for a goal, it was Accrington who had better scoring opportunities, including Kelsey Mooney failing to hit the target from a close distance.

Accrington managed to break the deadlock in added time with Benn Ward converting a free-kick taken by Ben Woods.

Gillingham stepped up their game in the second half but had difficulty testing Accrington's goalkeeper Billy Crellin, until Max Clark's crucial late goal - their only shot on target in the entire match.
