Preview: Tough test awaits Tottenham in Galatasaray

Tottenham have won all of their three Europa League matches this season, but they are up against a tough challenge when they play Galatasaray on Thursday.

Their opponents are undefeated in the Turkish Super Lig this season, scoring 29 goals in 10 league matches, which could make it a difficult evening for a makeshift Spurs defense.

Team news

Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera is back after serving a European suspension, but left-back Ismail Jakobs is out with a knee injury.

On the other hand, Tottenham's Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, and Wilson Odobert are all dealing with hamstring problems, while Cristian Romero is doubtful with a foot injury he sustained in Sunday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa.

Cristian Romero might not play in the game in Istanbul because of a foot injury.

The stats

Only three of Tottenham's last 14 games have seen less than three goals scored.

Galatasaray have opened the scoring in their past seven home games, with five of those matches witnessing over 3.5 goals.

The Turkish league leaders have recorded nine wins and two draws in their last 11 matches.

Tottenham have managed to keep clean sheets in just two of their last 14 away games.

Prediction

Successes against Qarabag, Ferencvaros, and AZ Alkmaar have propelled Tottenham to the second spot in the Europa League standings. However, Galatasaray believe they can secure their third victory in the competition against Spurs on Thursday.

Okan Buruk's team is leading the Turkish Super Lig by three points and has scored 29 goals in their ten league fixtures, which might trouble Spurs, especially if they have to make changes to their defense for the trip to Istanbul.

Injuries to Van de Ven and Romero could force Ange Postecoglou to turn to Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies to contain Gala's striker Victor Osimhen.

It may be a tough task as Galatasaray have scored nine times in their three Europa League games, which include wins over Elfsborg and PAOK, along with a 2-2 draw against Rigas FS in Latvia.

Despite recent impressive victories over Manchester City and Aston Villa at home, Tottenham still have improvements to make before they can be considered strong contenders on the road.

Postecoglou's side suffered a 3-2 defeat to Brighton, squandering a two-goal lead, and then put on a poor display in a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace. Hence, it seems like the home team might have the upper hand in this upcoming clash.
