Record-breaking goal by Ollie Watkins boosts Aston Villa’s chances of qualifying for Champions League

Ollie Watkins broke Aston Villa's all-time Premier League goalscoring record with a goal that helped his team in their quest for Champions League qualification by defeating Bournemouth 1-0.

The English striker tapped in Morgan Rogers' cross just before halftime to notch his 75th Premier League goal for Villa, surpassing Gabriel Agbonlahor's previous record.

Villa managed to hold on for the win despite being reduced to 10 men in the final 10 minutes after Jacob Ramsey received a second yellow card.

With this victory, Villa climbed to sixth place in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Newcastle and fifth-placed Chelsea, edging out Nottingham Forest.

In the remaining matches of the season, Villa, who made it to the Champions League quarter-finals, will face tough opponents like Tottenham and Manchester United in their bid for a top-five finish.

On the other hand, Bournemouth now finds themselves in 10th place after dropping points behind Brentford and Brighton in the race for European spots following this defeat.
