Newcastle secures a point with Alexander Isak's penalty in third attempt

Alexander Isak secured a 1-1 draw for Newcastle with a late penalty against Brighton, after his team had two penalty decisions overturned by VAR in the second half.

The Magpies forward scored his 27th goal of the season just minutes before the final whistle after Yasin Ayari of Brighton was penalized for handling a Fabian Schar free-kick.

Referee Craig Pawson had initially awarded penalties which were later overturned after video reviews showed fouls outside the box on Anthony Gordon and a dive by Joe Willock.

Newcastle, aiming for a Champions League spot, fell behind in the first half when Yankuba Minteh scored against his former team Brighton.

The draw at the Amex Stadium leaves Eddie Howe's side in fourth place, three points ahead of sixth.

Brighton, also hoping for European qualification, remain in 10th position.

Minteh, who returned for Brighton's lineup, scored the opening goal, while Newcastle maintained the same team from their previous match against Ipswich.

Manager Howe encouraged his players to stay focused on their goal despite their season nearing its end, following their recent Carabao Cup victory.

Both teams had missed opportunities early in the game before Minteh's goal in the 28th minute.

Brighton's Wieffer avoided a second yellow card, leading to Newcastle's displeasure, before Newcastle saw their penalty decisions overturned by VAR.

Newcastle continued to press for an equalizer, controlling possession, while Brighton defended deep and relied on counter-attacks.

Despite having penalties overturned, Isak managed to convert a late penalty to secure a draw for Newcastle.

Brighton had a chance to win the game in the added time, but ultimately the match ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw.
