Wrexham made significant progress in their quest for promotion from Sky Bet League One with a 2-1 victory over mid-table Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Easter Monday.
Club co-owner Rob McElhenney was in attendance as James McClean and Ollie Rathbone found the net in the second half to secure all three points for Phil Parkinson’s team, despite a late consolation goal from Rob Apter for Blackpool.
The first real scoring opportunity came after 23 minutes, with Wrexham’s McClean getting a great chance in the penalty area but being denied by a superb save from Harry Tryer.
Tryer was called into action again eight minutes later, making saves from Jay Rodriguez in a one-on-one situation and from George Dobson's long-range shot.
Blackpool had a promising moment just before half-time from a corner, with Apter's curling effort being tipped over the crossbar by Arthur Okonkwo.
Wrexham finally broke the deadlock in the 61st minute when McClean's cross-cum-shot from the right made its way into the back of the net.
Just four minutes later, they extended their lead with Rathbone scoring from close range after a delivery from the right side.
Blackpool managed to pull one goal back in stoppage time through Apter, who struck a deflected shot from the right side of the box past Okonkwo.
However, it was not enough for Blackpool to avoid defeat.
